Whether you’re into boxing, yoga or lifting weights, wearing the proper exercise attire is just as important as having the right equipment for your sweat session. After all, the last thing you’d want is to feel so uncomfortable or self-conscious in your gym clothes, that it impedes your performance.
For instance, a sports bra with meshed panels can keep you cool during your training — as it helps wick away sweat — while a funky yet functional pair of yoga pants allows you to try out various positions without worrying about any unwarranted skin exposure. While we don’t have anything against wearing comfy sweat pants, or even old and faded t-shirts and shorts (which are also the same clothes we’d usually wear for grocery trips to the market), nothing beats wearing proper workout clothes that are designed to enhance our performance at the gym.
Opting for such apparel doesn’t mean scaling back on our fashion quotient, though. This year has seen various brands rolling out practical yet chic offerings ranging from fast-drying sports bras and vibrant printed leggings to seamless bodysuits and unitards. Here are 5 of our favourite workout clothes, which effortlessly marry form and function so we can hit the gym in style.
This stretchable Sun Setter bra from Lululemon will give you the full support you need during epic sweat sessions. It’s equipped with the brand’s four-way stretch Full-On Luxtreme fabric, which has sweat-wicking qualities and offers great support and coverage. Wear it on its own, or layer it with cropped tops and loose shirts for your HIIT or crossfit trainings.

Whether you’re doing one-on-one training or joining an intense group workout, this loose web tank top from Koral Activewear will make you feel free and relaxed. Its intricate back strap detail also sets it apart from the run-of-the-mill plain tank top, so you get to look fabulous even while sweating it out in the studio.

Whether you’re doing cardio in the comfort of your home, or pushing your limits with a full marathon, this pair of Adidas by Stella McCartney’s Run Sprintweb leggings will keep you cool and dry with its ClimaCool technology. The leggings are adorned with pale blue graphic floral prints and mesh details, and come with an elasticised waistband.
Available at Stella McCartney for RM670.
Made from quick-drying and sweat-wicking tech fabric, this gradient seamless bodysuit from Beyonce’s Ivy Park activewear brand allows for easy, distraction-free movements. Wear it for your next yoga session, barre workout or dance cardio class.
Available at Nordstrom for RM289.87.
Go ahead, sign up for that aerial yoga class. This space dye compression unitard will not hinder you from performing those flexible, stretching positions while you dangle off the silks.
