Bringing fashion home: 5 stylish home labels to covet

As the original was published on 14 September 2017

Far beyond our sartorial needs, fashion brands have long forayed into brand extensions outside their known expertise. Luxury labels like Chanel and Louis Vuitton successfully branched out into sporting equipment while Bulgari and Versace ventured into branded hotels.

But perhaps the most common expansion is these labels’ entry into premium home design and manufacturing. It’s also the most logical since fashion and home decor hold the same regard for textile and design. Considering this business move’s relatively low levels of risk, it also makes it easier to understand why brands like Gucci and Badgley Mischka jumped on the bandwagon of launching interior design without hesitation earlier this year.

Perhaps, this is why we don’t call them fashion maisons anymore. Nowadays, brands preferred to be called luxury houses as they launch their lines of home furniture and accessories that possess the same aesthetic sensibility synonymous with their sister labels, blurring the lines between fashion and home in ever more alluring ways. After all, what a terrible waste it would be if great designs remain kept inside the closet, right?

So, continue scrolling down if lounging on Versace upholstered sofas or laying on Armani Casa beds is your idea of luxury living. From Bottega Veneta to Tory Burch, here are 5 designer brands that can dress your homes with gorgeous home furniture and furnishings.

Back in July, Gucci announced that it will be launching its first home collection in September. And it’s as fabulous as we imagined. We love how the brand’s creative director Alessandro Michele translated his fashion collection’s eclectic mix of pattern, colours, designs and decorative accents on furniture, furnishings and crockery. The upholstered chairs, tasselled pillows, and plates have a joyous effect as seen in this gorgeous Chiavari chair with embroidered tiger.

Badgley Mischka Home

Badgley Mischka

Badgley Mischka Home evokes the same old Hollywood glamour that its designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka have been known for in the runway. The dining, living, and bedroom collections include accent furniture, case goods, upholstered items, decorative accessories and candles. All of them feature intricate detailing of precious metals, retro silhouettes, and sensual fabrics that would make you never want to leave home.

Bottega Veneta Home

Bottega Venetta Hero

From its first bench design in 2006, Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier has successfully expanded the brand’s home label to include lighting, pillows, frames, and other home accessories. The designs are still closely related to its clothing line — featuring the same leather craftsmanship and signature intrecciato motif as their bags and clothes. And if you’re never attracted to ostentation, Bottega Veneta Home’s “simple is complicated” philosophy will fit perfectly into your abode.

Vera Wang Home

Vera Wang Wedgewood

Since launching her lifestyle brand in 2006, Vera Wang combines her ready-to-wear, accessories, fine jewellery, and fragrances with tableware and textiles. The popular bridal fashion designer has partnered with Wedgwood to come up with sophisticated dinnerware, frames, and vases. Her home collection also focuses on beddings, and table tops that resemble her bridal pieces. You’ll also find fine stationery products that contain a range of invitations, save the date cards, place cards and notepapers.

Tory Burch Home

A visit into a Tory Burch boutique will give you an immediate sense of how much the designer values interior design. Inspired by childhood nostalgia, the fashion brand ventured into home designs that include ceramics, potteries, barware, and table tops. There are also gold-plated picture frames, needlepoint pillows, and candles with prints similar to her ready-to-wear clothing line.
