Versailles has long fascinated designers from high fashion brands all over the world. Chief among them is Monsieur Christian Dior, who found endless inspiration in the royal chateau’s history and architecture, gold-plated interiors, and well-manicured gardens. And many years later, it eventually gave rise to House of Dior’s high jewellery Dior à Versailles collection.
The iconic palace continues to be an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Victoire de Castellane. Its private passageways and clandestine boudoirs influenced Dior’s creative director of fine jewellery to come up with Dior à Versailles, Pièces Secrètes — a collection of narrative jewels that range from diamond earrings and emerald rings to sapphire necklaces.
The earrings with diamond drops may seem like it is plucked from the palace’s chandeliers, but the fine rings remind us most about the Versaille’s Baroque architecture and design elements. Its centre and accent stones can be pushed or flipped open to reveal rubies and other precious stones. Much like the chateau’s hidden doorways can lead to secret corridors or bedrooms that are furnished with drawers filled with antiques and old letters.

“I was imagining the spirit and the atmosphere of these secret places you don’t know about, and the romance of [experiencing them]. There’s this idea of little hidden things and the ghosts of the past,” de Castellane said in an interview with Vogue UK. “It’s like an apparition. When it’s closed, you wouldn’t know it’s there.”
One of our favourites is a deep blue tourmaline cocktail ring. Made of yellow and white gold, the Vanité Indigolite ring features a tiny skull embossed underneath a face of diamond and indigolite. Similarly, the yellow Volupte Diamant Jaune ring that is surrounded by clear white diamonds also reveals delicate hidden rubies. The rectangular rings topped with diamonds and opals also caught our attention. They’re equipped with the tiny of drawers, which opened to reveal sunray and crown engravings.
