The waiting game: 5 productive things to do until the baby comes

For some people, nine months can go by so fast. But when you’re a neophyte mom in your first pregnancy, time can drag on so painstakingly slow.

The working moms need not to worry about this part, though. It’s hard to get impatient to finally meet your baby when you have work for a distraction. The experienced moms would just be glad to find extra time so that they can do whatever that needs doing first. But, this waiting game can drive first-time mothers nuts.

So, before you go bananas or your hormones take you somewhere dark, take a look at this list of productive things that you can do to while away your time that’s worth every second.

Think of baby names

One of the joys of becoming a parent! This may be easy for some, but thinking of the perfect name to give to your precious bundle of joys can be quite the challenge — especially if you’re looking for unique ones. So, it’s time to scour the internet or rummage through your books of baby names and start making a list.

Gender reveal party

This type of parties have been all the rage in the last few years. If your hands aren’t full, then this is a good excuse to gather everyone close to your heart together to announce that you’re expecting. Celebrating this news is good, but highlighting a gender reveal activity is better. It makes the occasion more exciting.

Planning a babymoon

Having a baby can really change the dynamics of your relationship with your partners. So, before a newborn rocks your world, now is the best time to spend some quality time together.

Designing and decorating the nursery room

Prepping a space for your precious baby takes a lot of effort. Which colour to paint the walls? What necessary items can fit in your small apartment? How to baby proof your home? And a million little things in between. So, hop on the Pinterest train, and start pinning your inspirations!

Baby gear shopping

Just like pregnancy, every baby is going to be unique and different. What works for one won’t necessarily be applicable to the other. One newborn might need to be held 24/7, while the next one can entertain him/herself in a baby bouncer. It’s gonna be hard to tell which particular item your baby newborn fully use, but getting advice from your mommy friends can avoid wasting money on items that will probably just gather dust in some corner.

So go on and start making a list which you think you or the baby can’t live without. And also start checking out various places where you can get them on reasonable prices.

Get more sleep. Get a mani and pedi. Colour your hair. God knows how hard it will be for you to find time to do these things when your baby arrives.

  1. Love this post! Gender reveal parties are so fun! Also, babymoon is such a great way to bond for new parents too. I’ve never had those, but I will definitely look into them on my next pregnancy! Thank you so much for sharing, mommy Rio!

    1. Pretty sure it’s worth it 😄 I’m getting sentimental now knowing my world will revolve around the baby soon and my husband has to take the backseat. Thanks for reading 🙂

  2. Interesting post! I’m not pregnant nor planning to be pregnant anytime soon, I think these are all great and productive ways to keep busy! My friend had her first baby and while she was pregnant she actually did all of these. She took a LOT of baby moons… 😂 Thanks for sharing!

  3. The anticipation of the baby’s arrival will always be there, especially in the last trimester. For me it was very bad during my first pregnancy as it was hard to find a distraction. I experienced nausea throughout the entire pregnancy so I was ready for it to be over lol.

    1. Oh that was unfortunate. 😦 I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe morning sickeness like Kate Middleton’s) but fortunately, it went away on the fourth month. But now, it seems some nausea is slowly creeping in again.
